Powers & Functions
Powers vested in the Committee and its jurisdiction.
POWERS & FUNCTIONS
The Committee is vested with the following powers and performs the following functions:
(i) To monitor the implementation of this Court’s orders and place reports of non-compliance before the Court and Central Government for appropriate action.
(ii) To examine pending Interlocutory Applications in the said Writ petitions, reports and affidavits filed by the States in response to the orders passed by the Hon’ble Court and place its recommendations before the Court for orders.
(iii) To deal with applications made to it by any aggrieved person and, wherever necessary, make a report to this Court in that behalf.
(iv) For effective discharge of powers conferred upon the Committee, the Committee may call for documents, undertake site inspection of forest areas, seek assistance from any person or official, co-opt members or special invitees, and suggest measures to the State and Central Government for effective implementation of the Act and orders of this Court.
(v) To examine and advise/recommend on any issue referred to the Committee.
JURISDICTION
The jurisdiction of the Committee extends to the whole of India.
